Your Excellency,

in January 2009 Pastor Nguyen Thi Hong was sentenced by the People?s Court of the Ho Chi
Minh City to three years imprisonment. Authorities reproached her for not paying back debts
in 1996. According to the verdict she shirked punishment by going underground. This,
however, was not the case. She was always a public member of her Mennonite house church
and never tried to hide from the eyes of the local security forces during these past eleven
years.

I am very concerned about this false verdict because I believe that her punishment is due to
her religious activities.I fail to comprehend the rigorous policy of your government and the harsh action of your authorities against those who only want to practise their religion within the scope of their human rights.

The reputation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is damaged by this case. Therefore I
appeal to you to do everything possible for a fair treatment of Pastor Thi Hong. In my opinion this can only be achieved by an immediate release of Pastor Nguyen Thi Hong.
